TLDR: Sharpshooter is great and it pays dividens throughout your character's career. And finally, when you get spell storing item, you can give it to your steel defender (or any of your creations) to cast an advantage generating spell while you concentrate on something else or just make your attacks on round 1. Eventually you can dip a level into fighter for archery or take the fighting intitiate feat for it. Add in the fact that you get a free +1 with repeating shot and you have many spells that can generate advantage on attacks (like grease, web, faerie fire). So you're already above the normal bounded accuracy curve at this level. Most point buy characters that don't go custom lineage are working with a 17 in their primary ability and the game is generally balanced around this. You are a single ability dependent (SAD) character and you already have 18 int. Xbow expert does lose a bit of value with battlesmiths since you already have a reliable bonus action, but if you want to do the most consistent damage with your attack action, sharpshooter is hands down the most effective method.
